Walpamur
The creation of The Wallpaper Manufactures Ltd. in 1899 merged the interests of thirty-one UK wallpaper-making concerns. This was 98 per cent of the industry at the time, a virtual monopoly.
From around 1910 Walpamur – drived from the company name: Wallpaper Manufacturers - mainly distributed paint, but in 1955 it began to offer wallpaper from companies within the group, like Crown and Shand Kydd, to its customers too.
From our collection of vintage and antique wallpaper and vintage wallpaper sample catalogues, here is a selection of wallpaper samples extracted from a Walpamur sample book dated 1962.
These samples are mainly Crown designs, but there is also a very distinctive Shand Kydd designed conversational, typical of the designers and the period.
