Vintage Photography Zangaki Images

Zangaki Brothers Images of Egypt

We know very little about the creators of some of the most collectable vintage photographs of the second half of the nineteenth century, because the lives of the photographers Hippolyte Arnoux, Felix Bonfils, Antonio Beato, Pascal Sebah and the Zangaki brothers are so entwined, that perhaps they should be called “The School of Egypt”.

Photographers active in Egypt in the second half of the nineteenth century, based in Cairo, Port Said and Luxor were creating photographic images for the tourists enjoying the Grand Tour. There are very few albums of vintage photography that don’t include the work of the Zangaki brothers. The one thing we do know for sure, is that the Zangaki brothers, working between the 1860s and the 1880s created some of the best know and collectable vintage photographic images of the 19th century.
