Jacquards

This selection of vintage jacquard swatch documents is from a large collection dated 1933, Macclesfield. They are Jacquards, woven on the Jacquard Loom, invented by Joseph Marie Jacquard in 1801.

The Jacquard Loom simplified the process of manufacturing fabrics with a complex design by the use of punch cards – not unlike early computers – with punched holes, corresponding to the design, controlling the action of the loom.

This group was specifically designed and manufactured for use in the production of neckties and are therefore small swatches. They do contain sufficient information to be used for reference or conversion.
