Just got back from London. It’s always great to be there and in terms of vintage London excited me more than it has since the seventies, when every charity shop actually had vintage on the rails. Now there are new vintage outlets opening all over the place and everyone is talking about vintage.
I was surprised to see a lot of real fur coats being worn, mostly around Portobello Road, all vintage, of course. I’ve sold a lot of vintage furs myself and see nothing wrong with wearing them, if they are vintage. However I certainly don’t condone the wearing of new fur coats. For a good selection Hilary Proctor, Shop 6 Admiral Vernon Antiques Arcade,
141 Portobello Road, London W11 2DY. She also has a stall on the street outside the Admiral Vernon. Hilary has a very fine selection of vintage crocodile handbags and vintage shoes too.
What a shame the Victoria and Albert Museum doesn’t appear to have enough staff to open their fabulous textile department. I was there twice last week and it was closed both times. If you’ve never seen it, you should definitely go, but call first.
