Vintage Clothing – Aprons

Here’s a small selection of items of vintage & retro  clothing I always enjoy buying and selling – vintage aprons (Wikipedia).

Worn, in one form or another throughout history to protect more expensive clothing beneath, aprons appear to have been quite plain garments prior to the 20th century. Then housewives themselves, rather than their staff began do a little housework. The houswife needed an apron and aprons had to become stylish. From the 1920s until the 1960s designers were employing contemporary, colourful woven and printed textiles to produce “modern ” aprons that would appeal to this market.

This group of vintage aprons are good examples of three popular types: full length aprons, or housecoats, bib aprons and waist aprons. They should appeal to designers looking for period influences, stylists or retro homemakers interested in the full vintage look.

A full length vintage apron, or housecoat, with a lovely example of a framed floral print. Probably 1950s, but possibly earlier.

This garment is in very good condition, without any obvious repairs. Up to UK size: 14.

Just too late for Valentines Day. This great vintage waist apron with the mid-century retro look.

A cotton fabric printed with a bright floral, fruit design, yellow-taped edges, two spectacular yellow-taped,

blue patch pockets, finished with a central blue vertical stripe. Probably 1960s.

finished with a plain yellow waist, yellow frill and single yellow pocket. Probably 1960s.

blue-taped edges and a blue-taped single pocket. Probably 1960s.
