It looks as though almost any apparel manufactured for women this summer could be made with lace, have a lace trim or lace panel: blouses, skirts, dresses, t-shirts and even overcoats and bags will be appearing on the high street in lace. Vintage lace will be the inspiration for many of these products.

Buying Vintage On Ebay
March 4th, 2010 § 0
I started buying vintage on Ebay years ago. Of the first forty-two pieces I bought, thirty-eight were either, not as described, were repaired, arrived damaged or were fakes. The forty-second object was a wonderful treasure. I quickly forgot the previous forty-one duds and never again looked back.
If you are new to Ebay, before you begin bidding, always look at the seller’s feedback. If they have a big feedback score and it is ninety-nine percent positive, there’s a good chance they are honest. But always bear in mind that the feedback system works both ways and even people with a complaint are often reluctant to give bad feedback in case it is unjustly reciprocated.
The best thing about Ebay is the bidding system. Unlike a live sale, there is no auctioneer to run you up by taking bids “off the wall”. The computer handles all the bids and only increases each bid by set increments. An object may have a bid of $1.00 on it, but you decide you would be prepared to bid $1000. Well go ahead and bid $1000. The computer holds your bid, but will only increase the visible bid by whatever the next increment is – say $1 – so the visible bid becomes $2. If nobody else bids, it will be yours for $2.
You may have noticed an object you are watching only has a very small bid on it right to the very end of the auction and then leaps by hundreds, even, thousands of dollars in the final seconds. This is usually due to sniper bids executed by computer. For a small fee you can use this facility too. Create an account at a site like Auction Sniper. You can automatically import Ebay items from your watching file, decide on your bids days in advance and even watch the final seconds tick away as the auction closes

Vintage Milan

At Milan Fashion Week, Emporio Armani’s Uptown Girl collection included vintage look ankle boots.
While following on my post yesterday, Fendi, a vintage fur label, have taken advantage of the recent softening line on the use of fur and combined with Karl Largerfeld to give it a cool image. They have shown a collection at Milan which includes inside-out furs and colourful patchworks of fur and fabric.
Elsewhere there was dog-tooth pants and Bermuda shorts – can’t get much more vintage than that.
Vintage London

Just got back from London. It’s always great to be there and in terms of vintage London excited me more than it has since the seventies, when every charity shop actually had vintage on the rails. Now there are new vintage outlets opening all over the place and everyone is talking about vintage.
I was surprised to see a lot of real fur coats being worn, mostly around Portobello Road, all vintage, of course. I’ve sold a lot of vintage furs myself and see nothing wrong with wearing them, if they are vintage. However I certainly don’t condone the wearing of new fur coats. For a good selection Hilary Proctor, Shop 6 Admiral Vernon Antiques Arcade,
141 Portobello Road, London W11 2DY. She also has a stall on the street outside the Admiral Vernon. Hilary has a very fine selection of vintage crocodile handbags and vintage shoes too.
What a shame the Victoria and Albert Museum doesn’t appear to have enough staff to open their fabulous textile department. I was there twice last week and it was closed both times. If you’ve never seen it, you should definitely go, but call first.
Vintage Buzz

I’m down in London for a week and the city seems to have gone vintage crazy. Vintage is the new black. Yesterday designer Wayne Hemingway – famous for his Red or Dead label – launched Vintage at Goodwood, a festival of British creativity from the 1940s to the 1980s. The festival, to be held at Goodwood, West Sussex between 13th & 15th August will include music, design, fashion and the arts. “It will be a sort of Festival Of Britain,” said Hemingway. Artists appearing include, Sandie Shaw – performing for the first time in twenty years. Sandie is also a curator of the show and will present a selection of divas singing songs, sung by men, that women should have sung. Lily Allen, Heaven 17, The Noisettes, The Dammed and The Buzzcocks are also appearing.
Tickets will be limited to 20,000 for the event and the organisers have promised dry feet and clean toilets.
Lily Allen, who is giving up her singing career for a while is heavily involved in a vintage clothes label and her shop, Lucy in Disguise, will be opening at the festival. The shop will sell and rent vintage clothing and vintage accessories.
